There are many different types of dog coats and the right one for your dog will depend on factors such as its size, age, and breed. Small dogs tend to quickly lose body heat, especially those breeds with short hair. Small short haired dogs will need some type of protection from the elements on a day that is cold or wet.

While larger long haired dogs will not require a cost they may like the cozy feel of wearing one. Approach buying a dog rain coat for your dog much like you would making a purchase for yourself. Find one that is well made from a material that can provide warmth. Wool and fleece linings are important for those dogs that live in colder climates. The raincoat needs to be large enough so that it can provide protection from the elements.

The dog jacket will need to be somewhat loose around to neck to be comfortable for your dog. There is a large price range when it comes to dog raincoats. Some can be found for as little as $20 while others will go for hundreds. A dog raincoat that costs more will not always be better so inspect it carefully when purchasing. Both designer labels and quality materials can add to the cost of a dog raincoat.

Small dogs particularly need to protection provided by a dog raincoat. Small dogs with short coats will usually quickly become unhappy in the rain. A dog with a chill can take a while to warm up. You will want to invest in a high quality dog rain jacket if you have a small dog and live in an area where it rains frequently.

There will be many options available when shopping for a dog raincoat. You can also purchase matching hats or hoods for your dog to wear in the rain. They not only look cute on they will keep heat from escaping from their head. You want your dog to be able to be warm and cozy even when the weather is cold.

Useful Tips For Dog Grooming

Dog grooming may not be on your list of favorite things to do with your dog but it is something that is essential for both you and your pet. Besides a very unsightly appearance, not grooming your dog can lead to a variety of problems. These problems can range from a horrible odour to fleas, and create far greater trouble than just making your pet be groomed properly.

Dog books and experts agree that dog grooming is an excellent way to foster a bond between pet owner and pet. It allows consistent contact and it helps assure the pet that its needs are being met in a safe way. It keeps the pet’s appearance healthy and makes sure that allergies in the home are kept to a minimum. You do not have to have expensive equipment nor do you have to be a professional animal wiz.

Basic dog beauty treatments begin in much the same way that you, yourself, spruce up. Start with an adequate bathtub with a hose attachment to the shower. Most pet shops will sell a variety of shampoos and conditioning agents to help the dog grooming along. Make sure the bathtub area is cleared of all clutter. If this is your puppy’s first bath then you need to be prepared that things might not be quite as calm as you would want.

Start the shower, making sure the water temperature is tepid to warm, and make sure that your supplies are very close at hand. The best idea is to have your dog training collar attached to a short leash and have the leash held by someone else while you do the dirty, or rather clean, work. Dog grooming starts with the bath. After the bathing is done and the dog is dried off then the entertainment begins.

One of the funniest things to watch is a dog freshly out of the bath. You want to make sure that you do not allow him or her to run outside because they are going to roll around. After the show is completed, take a good dog brush and give your pet a thorough brushing. This will remove any remaining loose hair and dander that may be lingering after the bath. This is also the time to clip the nails if you feel comfortable enough doing so.

There are certain breeds of dogs that require specialized dog grooming. This may range from the type of hair cut given to how much should be shaved. If you are showing your dog in a dog show, you might consider letting a professional prepare your pet. The expense is relatively minor and it may save you a major headache, especially if the dog is very large. Your pet will look and feel much better after his or her trip to the salon.

A Gift For Your Dog Just Give Clothes

It is always a hard decision what gift to get for your dog. Dog clothes are a great gift any season, and your dog is sure to look great in any outfit you buy him. He’ll wear your gift with his head held high and tail wagging with pride and appreciation. Dog’s love any kind of attention from you so having them dressed and looking good and I am sure getting compliments and pats, will only increase their feeling of wellbeing.

Dog clothes shopping is a lot like shopping for clothes for babies. Unless you’re going for practicality, cuteness is what counts. There is an entire range of dog clothes from winter sweaters to football jerseys and summer tees. You can get a set of sweet sleep pajamas for bedtime or a terry robe for after bath. There’s even an entire line of Happy tails Cowboy or Cowgirl costumes for dogs, complete with leather cap and collar. There are other costumes made for parties and holidays and picnics which are simply too cute for words.

If you really want your gift of clothes to be a hit, accessorize. Try a designer dog collar and maybe a cool pair of sunglasses–they make them just for dogs. Also you can choose from necklaces and hats.
There are also some really creative doggie costumes out there that are good for a chuckle or two. There are really only a couple of rules you’ll need to keep in mind when shopping for dog clothes:

One is that if the dog in question is an avid chewer, you should avoid buying clothes with shiny buttons, fringe, or feathers. An object that can easily be chewed off and swallowed is a choking hazard and can also get stuck in the dog’s digestive tract.
The other rule is that any dog, no matter how understanding, will be more relaxed wearing clothes that fit. Proper fit typically requires measuring from the dog’s collar to the base of her tail for length. Most dog clothes can be adjusted with Velcro tabs, but could still be an issue with a barrel-chested breed such as a bulldog. Measurements are typically in inches.

Now, if you’re shopping for your own dog, you’re all set. But if you’re buying clothes for someone elses dog, I’ve got a few more tips to share with you. Surveys conducted on the subject of gift preferences of men and women have shown that men prefer gifts that are more playful or practical. So, if the dog’s owner is male this might translate into a doggie Happy Tails Cowboy & Cowgirl Costume, a funny costume, or a reflective hunting vest. Women, on the other hand, generally prefer gifts that are beautiful, memorable, and have a personal touch. It shouldn’t be hard to find an item of clothing for a woman’s dog that’s either beautiful or memorable or both, and it will of course be personal!
