Training Techniques for Dogs

When you seek to train your dog on your own you will have to make a decision on which training method that you will use.  There are a variety of different methods to select from with many dog training courses available.  Secrets to Dog Training is a well-known example. You can choose from paper potty training, crate training, rewards based training methods, clicker training and others. The following are two of the most well-known methods used in training.

Clicker training

Clicker training is a type of rewards based training technique . Rewards based training involves rewarding the dog for a desired action . This is different from negative training where you punish a puppy for an undesired behavior .

Clicker training is a training technique involving the use of a device known as a clicker. It is typically utilized in dog obedience training. It is something like the following . You give your dog a command . When he does what you seek you click and follow with praise and a treat.

The clicking action informs the dog that you are happy with his behavior . As you continue to train, the puppy will obey the command you give and perform the action that you wish expecting a reward in return. Eventually the dog will get used to following your command and you will be able to lessen the reward with a pat or praise even without the clicker .

Clicker training is an effective method of training your puppy to perform any kind of behavior that you wish . What makes it effective is that you are able to click immediately after the desired response is given. This cues the  dog that it has done what you seek and he will be ready for his reward.

Crate Training

Crate training is a popular method for housebreaking a puppy . Dogs are den animals so they naturally like being in a closed in area. I know this is contrary to us humans natural behavior, since we do not like confined spaces. However, dogs love it.

The main aspect that makes crate training effective is that puppies like to have their space tidy . So instead of pottying inside the crate the dog will hold it until you open the crate to go.

To make this training effective you must make sure to place the dog in the crate and release him on a regular schedule. This way their body gets adjusted to the potty times.  Be sure to give him food and water on a consistent schedule as well.

Eventually the dog will be on a schedule to know when it will potty . Take your dog to the same area outside each time to potty . This lets the puppy know the place that is acceptable to go.

Potty training your puppy using crate training can also be useful in another area . During the process the puppy will get used to being inside the crate. This will be beneficial since now you can place him in the crate when you have guests over or whenever you are traveling.

Clicker training and crate training are 2 useful training techniques for training your dog. Clicker training is helpful to get a desired behavior and crate training can help you potty train your dog . Use these methods and you should be on your way to a well trained dog.

Bad Dog Behaviour Could Simply be Anxiety

Anxiety can be the explanation of the majority of the behavior problems dogs experience.  This anxiety can be displayed in many ways, these can range from destroying items in the house by chewing them , barking , growling a lot , grunting , doing their business in the home , attacking because of fear , or by becoming hyperactive.  There are a wide range of reasons for this anxiety.

Some dogs are scared of noisy storms or people not known to them, or have an aversion to people of a certain age, race, or gender. Other dogs develop hostility toward other animals or more worryingly toward humans. The simple task of the owner shouting at a dog can turn a commonly carefree dog into a very nervous one.

A dog is by nature a creature of habit , they always lay in a certain spot or play with a specific toy -  so if their daily routine is suddenly changed it is likely to make the dog insecure .  Good examples are when you are sick and just can’t take them for their normal exercise, or perhaps the arrival of a new born or even simply a houseful of guests .  It is so important that in these instances you take a little time to make your dog feel ensure your dog feels safe and calm until they are used to the new ways.

It is important for your dog to have their own spot where they can simply relax – They should have a dog bed or blanket in one area with some toys to keep them amused and make sure they do not get bored.  When you have decided on this space it is best not to change it too much as it can be very upsetting for your dog.

Young dogs ( and even aged ones) that are left on their own for long stretches of time can feel separation anxiety. As domesticated pets they do attain a very powerful connection to their masters.  A dog suffering from seperation anxiety will generally display the following traits :

  • the dog constantly follows you around at home
  • the dog tries to stay near to items that smell of you
  • when you leave the house they chew personal items of yours
  • on greeting you the dog goes beserk and is clingy
  • the dog sleeps with you
  • this happens if you are only away for a short period of time

So now we know a lot of our bad dog behaviour and dog biting problems are purely anxiety, what is the best way to cure our anxious dogs?

I personally do not recommend medicinal drug as it is not only very pricey it can also lead to nasty side effects.  One great way of curing your dogs is aromatherapy, it is an effective, yet safe way to treat anxiety and nervousness in dogs, whether it be because of a thunderstorm or separation anxiety .

The video below gives an aromatherapy recipe you can try on your dogs:

It is important you keep this recipe in a sealed dark glass bottle.

If this is the first time you have used aromotherapy on your dog test a small patch of skin to check there is not a reaction . Instead of applying the oil directly to your dogs skin you could use a diffuser that will slowly release the scent into the air. One important note – this recipe should not be used on or near cats as some essential oils for dogs can be dangerous for cats.

Providing Your Dog With A Healthy And Nutritious Diet

Feeding any pet is relatively straightforward, but avoidable mistakes can be made. You need to pay close attention to both the quality of food you provide and the quantities provided. When shopping for the best dog food you should really try and base your purchasing decision on the quality of the food, rather than the price tag.If you want your dog to have a glossy coat, bright eyes, energy and good overall health then a good quality dog food is essential.
A good way of choosing the right dog food is by taking the time to read the ingredients list which should be shown on the packaging. It is widely acknowledged that dog’s are not vegetarian and they prefer to eat meat in their diet.Bearing this in mind you should only every purchase dog food where meat is the very first ingredient.Stay away from foods that are made of meat by products. These foods substitute items such as feathers, skin, and beaks for real meat.Soya is becoming widely recognised in human food, but for dogs it is another no-go product as many are intolerant to it.You can now buy dog food to target a specific area of your dogs health or physical condition. For example, you can now buy dog food that has been formulated to help clean the animal’s teeth whilst she is chewing.
Just like humans, dogs need a certain amount of fats and oils in their diets and an increasing number of manufacturers are adding good quality Omeaga 6 and 3 oils to their food to aid the dog’s health.
To see an increase in your pet’s energy level, choose foods that are high in proteins and carbohydrates. This is extremely important if you own a working dog that burns many calories each day.Older, less active dogs will not need as high of a calorie diet as those that are younger and more vibrant. If your dog prefers wet food served from a can you need to again pay attention to the ingredients. Avoid tinned foods that show water as the main ingredient.Water is used as the main ingredient in many varieties of canned pet food and the sole purpose is to lower the cost.If you feed your dog food from a can then you will also want to give your pet bones for crunching. Eating crunchy bones keeps a dog’s teeth healthy.Giving your pet a high quality food with maximum nutritional value is an excellent way to add energy in your dog’s life and enhance the appearance of his coat, eyes, teeth, and physique. The ticket price of premium dog foods is generally higher but portion sizes are usually smaller, so the cost per bowl will often work out the same as a cheap supermarket type feed.

Before you assume that we are some breed of “animal rights whackos” take a second to figure out why we feel the way that we do.

We had our last dog for over eight years  Because we had him for that long, you can imagine, we all justly loved him. He was a family member.

The day he went into cardiac arrest, we hurriedly drove him to the animal clinic simply to
find out that his belly was packed with tumors.

Upon an extremely painful discussion with the vet, she told us it may have very well been brought on by the the toxins in the commercial dog food he was eating.  You can read more on our site: Natural Homemade Dog Food.com.

The fact is, most commercial dog food formulas have a large per centage of dangerous toxins.

When we made the discovery that not only is it better for the pet we have now to eat food we make for her, but it also costs us much less!

As you would expect. we started sharing healthy recipes.  We decided we should share with our friends a simple, easy to read book that had lots of recipes for healthy, natural home-produced dog food.

We know everyone who visits our website will decide to subscribe to our free newsletter!

After that Jaime considered the idea of to making the book a free bonus for joining our list.

Alternatively, the attention on dry dog food is obviously a good one and this sort of food will still allow you to offer your family dog with the important nutrition it needs and also save your money at the same time.

Lots of people assume that pet dogs may not be obtaining the appropriate nutrition from this type of product, feeling that supplying them with soft meats and that food stuff of this style is definitely superior. But, this isn’t necessarily the case becuase dry dog food is certainly well suited for your animal and will supply to them all the necessary proteins and carbohydrate that they require.

Additionally it is quite simple to acquire this kind of dried food. You’ll be able to easily go out and purchase massive sacks of it and will consequently not need to shop for the pets food again for quite a while. Whilst it is certainly important that you be sure the food is covered properly to ensure it will not spoil, getting this type of dry food

One thing which you should concentrate on while you feed the animal is that you always measure out the amount you are giving them with and supply them with the exact same quantity of food each time and every time. Canines like to develop routines and so are consequently used to getting the same amount on every occasion, therefore you should work out a routine that works for yourself and your pets.

Commonly providing them with food each morning and every single evening time is the better tool for keeping your pet’s diet plan just right.
