If you want to keep your house clean after deciding to adopt a new puppy, you need to insist on puppy house training rules.  All puppies are different, some pick up things fast and some don’t. It can take a while to see a difference once you start your puppy training, so don’t get frustrated just keep patient and supportive and your puppy will soon get there.

In the Puppy’s Mind

Understanding how your puppy thinks can make puppy house training much easier. The word clean holds a different meaning for your puppy than it holds for you. You think it is important for your puppy to go to a chosen spot in the garden and “go”, but to your pup, what’s important is to relieve himself where the notion takes him. Using the bathroom away from their food and bed, the basic health and safety rule of nature, is your puppy’s only concern. From their perspective, anywhere away from their food and bed is the perfect place, what you must do is instruct him and show him a better spot — one that you choose for him!

Anticipation of the Signs

The early warning system of a puppy is not very reliable during his first few weeks, so make sure to work it out as early as possible for both your benefits. As soon as possible, you should choose a spot in an area where the puppy doesn’tplays, eat or usually sleeps. It is very rewarding to be able to anticipate when your puppy needs to go outside. Generally, puppies need to go as soon as they wake up, after drinking or eating, when they are excited, after playing, or at least once every waking hour!

As you get to know your puppy, you will get to learn the various signs that he needs to go out to the bathroom. Common signs are sniffing around in a persistent manner, circling around a single spot, or holding his tail high. When see this you need to immediately bring him to where you prefer that he relieve himself, by doing this you will be on your way to successfully completing puppy house training.

Even dogs that have gone through dog training classes will occasionally have small accidents when they are very excited or when greeting friends and family members. This type of response is natural and is called submissive urination.  You shouldn’t treat this differently from regular house training. You should never go as far as punishing you dog, even if other accidents occur. Punishing a house training pup will only lead to confusion and make the puppy feel the need to hide when it relieves itself.

Try to make greetings low key and keep them outside if possible. Build up your dog’s confidence and greet them gently. If they do have an accident, clean it up and don’t make an issue out of it. Your dog will soon stop having accidents, and you can congratulate yourself on successfully concluding another round of puppy house training.
